Installation & privacy

This release fixes wheel-row hit testing, contextual chooser dismissal and stale selection. Settings now use the family’s clay controls. Clipboard history stays on your Mac.

Matching companions: Holdflow 0.5.0 · Holdshot 1.2.3. Each installs independently.

Install

  1. Open the disk image and drag Holdclip to Applications.
  2. Launch Holdclip. Choose Continue to begin keeping recent copies.
  3. Enable Accessibility when you want the hold gesture and automatic paste. You can still browse and copy clips without it.

Control–Shift–V opens the chooser. If another app owns that shortcut, use the menu bar. While holding, move right, choose a row, and release. Release over Clipboard to keep the chooser open for search and saved items.

What stays on this Mac

Text, common rich text formats, images, URLs and file references are kept in local application storage. History defaults to seven days and up to 500 recent clips, with a 250 MiB total storage budget. Individual captures are limited to 32 MiB. Saved entries survive ordinary expiry.

File references depend on the original file. “Save file as asset” makes a managed copy of supported regular files, up to 32 MiB total. Folders and applications are not imported. No cloud sync or account is used.

Holdclip skips recognized confidential and transient clipboard markers. This is best-effort protection, not a promise to detect every secret. Pause capture before copying anything you do not want retained. Clear recent history from Settings; delete saved items individually from preview.

What to expect in the beta

Automatic paste sends one paste command to the original destination. It does not submit messages or retry an uncertain paste. The selected clip remains on the clipboard and in history.

Editable objects from tools such as Canva and Photoshop may use proprietary formats that this beta does not retain. Common images, text and supported file references are the initial compatibility target. Canvas apps excluded from the family hold gesture can use the shortcut instead.

Cloud sync, project libraries, OCR, advanced macros and automatic family updates are reserved for later releases.

The app and disk image are signed, Apple-notarized and stapled. Installation, local capture and signed family input ownership were checked on the Mac mini. The capture → clipboard → dictation workflow passed the developer’s hands-on smoke test. Broader device and app testing continues; the Clip hover corridor is being refined.
